Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Otakun and how it works.
Otakun
The app, where to download it, and what the website lets you do.
What is Otakun?
Otakun is the social network for anime, manga, gaming and cosplay fans. You'll find communities, posts, a social map to see who shares your passion around you, Versus votes between characters, quizzes, and a store of virtual items and merchants' products. The app is published by DEV DE BABI, from Ivory Coast.
Where can I download the app?
Otakun is available on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android. Both links are also at the bottom of every page of this site.
Is Otakun free?
Yes: creating an account and using the social features costs nothing. The app offers optional purchases, credit packs and the Otakun Pass (a subscription), which unlock items, bonuses and perks. Prices, durations and renewal terms are shown at the time of purchase.
What can I do on the website, and what in the app?
The app is the full experience: post, vote, join communities, explore the map, send messages. The website presents Otakun, publishes its legal documents and serves the pages shared from the app (a post, a profile, a community, an item), which open in the app.
Signed in with the My account button, you also get My space: your communities, credit top-ups and the catalogue. Merchants manage their items, packs and offers there on a large screen, and influencers their statistics and scheduled posts.
How old do I need to be to use Otakun?
At least 13, and older where local law requires it. An account that doesn't meet this condition may be suspended or deleted. Details are in the terms of use.
Account
Create, manage and delete your account.
How do I create an account?
In the app, when it opens: with an email address and a password, or in one tap with your Google or Apple account. The information you provide must be accurate, and your credentials remain your responsibility.
Can I use several accounts on the same phone?
Yes. The app remembers the accounts signed in on your device and lets you switch between them without re-entering your credentials every time.
How do I delete my account?
From the app, in your account settings. Deletion is permanent: profile, content and credits are lost. Your data is then deleted or anonymised, except what a legal obligation, an ongoing dispute or fraud prevention requires us to keep. See the privacy policy.
What do you do with my personal data?
It's used to run the service: your account, your profile, your posts, notifications, security. We don't sell your data. It's only shared with our technical providers, with the authorities when the law requires it, and with other members for what you choose to make visible. You can request access, rectification or erasure of your data by writing to us; everything is detailed in the privacy policy.
Profile types
What a profile type is, how to request one, and what happens next.
What is a profile type?
A profile type is your role on Otakun. Everyone starts with the User (Otaku) profile, which opens every social feature. The other profiles unlock extra tools: a shop on the map for the Merchant, statistics and post scheduling for the Influencer, virtual item creation for the Creator, and moderation tools for the Moderator.
Which profiles can be requested?
Merchant, Influencer and Creator are requested from the app. The Moderator profile cannot be requested: it is granted by the Otakun team through internal selection. The User profile is automatic from sign-up.
Where can I see and request a profile type in the app?
In the mobile app: open your Profile, then Settings, then Profile request. Each profile has its own card, with its benefits, features and conditions. On a card you don't hold yet, the Request this profile button sits at the bottom: write a short presentation, then send it.
What happens after my request?
Your request lands in the Otakun team's queue, with your presentation. It is then approved or declined.
- Approved: the profile is added to your account, with its badge and tools.
- Declined: you are notified, with the reason when the team gave one. You can rework your presentation and apply again later.
While you wait, your account works as usual.
Can I hold several profiles at once?
Yes. A new profile is added to your account, it does not replace the others: a Merchant is still an Otaku, and can also be an Influencer. Each profile keeps its own tools and badge.
Alchemist, Sensei, Hashira, Shinigami: what do these names mean?
They are the otaku names of the profiles: Alchemist for the Merchant, Sensei for the Influencer, Hashira for the Creator and Shinigami for the Moderator. Each has its badge, shown on your profile: it tells other members who you are in the community, a certified seller, a content creator, a designer or a keeper of order.
User
OtakuThe profile every member has, active from sign-up.
What is the User (Otaku) profile?
It is the base profile, given to every member from sign-up. It grants full access to the social features: post your moments, comment, react, take part in community activities, discover the Creators' creations and find the Merchants' shops on the map.
How do XP and levels work?
Your activity and interactions on the platform earn you experience, and your level rises with it. It is shown on your profile. An active Otakun Pass adds progression bonuses and unlocks exclusive features.
How do I support an influencer?
When you get a virtual item with your credits, you can name an influencer: part of the exchange's value goes to them. It is the most direct way to support your favourite Sensei.
